Think before uttering words, Court warns Bihar Deputy CM

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Tuesday warned Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav to "think before uttering words against the CBI".

Special Court judge Geetanjali Goel asked Yadav to be careful and choose appropriate words while refusing the CBI's plea to cancel his bail.

The CBI sought the cancellation of his bail in the Prevention of Corruption Act case pertaining to the IRCTC scam case.

The CBI told the court that Yadav gave a speech threatening the officers by saying, "One day they (the CBI officers) would retire, and government would also change, then what would they do?"

"What kind of speech was that? Wasn't it a threat to us? The accused are trying to discredit the agency. We are not working at the behest of anyone. The accused are threatening us," the CBI told the court.

The CBI also alleged that one of their officials was attacked when he was driving his car. The officials alleged that it was an attempt to murder him. The officials said that they didn't have enough proof but a truck hit the car of their officials two times after which a case under sections 307 was lodged against unknown persons.

"Recently Tejashwi Yadav held a press conference and went on to say that one day CBI officials would retire, the government will change, then what would they do? We are told that the accused are from Bihar and they are most powerful, if this is not a threat then what is this," the agency led by advocate D P Singh told the court.

Advocate Maninder Singh, representing Yadav - denied the charges made by the CBI counsel.

"My client's press conference was in another context. He talked about many things, scams and other political issues in the press conference, " Singh said.

"I have spoken about Land for Job scam, I have spoke about the raids in that case, then how are they seeking the cancellation of bail in the IRCTC case," he further asked.

"If the CBI officials feel threatened, he added, then they can register an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," he contended.

After hearing the argument, the court cautioned Yadav not to give such speeches.

"You're a Deputy Chief Minister, you should think before speaking. I am not cancelling the bail," the judge said.
