Law Students Battle it out at the XVII LC-1 All Delhi (NCR) Moot Court Competition 2023 with Artificial Intelligence in Focus

Law students from across Delhi recently participated in the prestigious XVII LC-1 All Delhi (NCR) Moot Court Competition, 2023. Organized by the Moot Court Society at Law Centre-1, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, the event took place on March 31st and April 1st, 2023 at the Moot Court Hall, Umang Bhavan, Law Centre-1.

A total of eighteen teams took part in the event, with only four making it to the semi-finals and two teams competing in the finals. The finalists were judged by ASG Sanjay Jain and ASG Venkatraman N.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Guest of Honor Dr. G.R. Raghavender, who highlighted the significance of using technology such as live streaming of case proceedings to enhance the learning curve. Special addresses were given by Hon’ble Justice (Retd.) R.K. Gauba of the Delhi High Court and Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Director of Indian Law Institute, Delhi (ILI), who emphasized the importance of public speaking and participation in moot court competitions. The ceremony was presided over by Professor-in-Charge of Law Centre-1, Prof. (Dr.) Anju Vali Tikoo, who introduced the Moot Court Society and the ground rules of the competition, while Dr. Sanjivini Raina, Convener of the Moot Court Society, provided an introduction to the students.

The valedictory ceremony on April 1st, 2023, began with a welcome address by Patron-in-chief Prof (Dr.) Anju Vali Tikoo. Guest of Honour, Mr. Sanjay Jain, Senior Advocate, Additional Solicitor General, and Guest of Honour, Mr. N. Venkatraman, Senior Advocate, Additional Solicitor General, provided valuable feedback for the students, underlining the attitude of sacrifice, advocacy with purpose, and aligning it with national interest. Hon’ble Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju, Special Guest of Honor, emphasized the importance of moot court exercise and encouraged students to participate in more such competitions. Hon’ble Justice Rajiv Shakdhar, High Court of Delhi, the Chief Guest of the ceremony, enlightened the students about the changes that will occur as a result of the use of Artificial Intelligence in the legal field and encouraged them to gear up for such challenges.

The event culminated in the announcement of the winners by Dr. Sanjivini Raina. The winning teams were from Law Centre-2, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, while the runner-up team was from Amity University, Noida. Awards were also announced for the best speaker, best memorial, and best researcher in the competition. The event ended with a message that courage is in trying, and failure is a part of the success story, emphasizing that there is nothing to lose in participating in such competitions.
