Tuesday saw the swearing-in of Justice Chandra Sharma as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Justice Sharma, 60, received his oath from Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena during a ceremony held in the Lieutenant Governor’s secretariat the Raj Niwas. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, and Somnath Bharti and Madan Lal, legislators for the Aam Aadmi Party, were present at the ceremony.
The position of Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court became vacant because of Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel's retirement. In March, Justice Vipin Sanghi was named the High Court's acting chief justice. The Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court is Justice Sanghi.
Following the Central Government's notification, Chief Justice Sharma of the Telangana High Court has been moved to the Delhi High Court. The notification dated June 19 stated, "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to transfer Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice, Telangana High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and to direct him to assume charge of the office of the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court with utmost seriousness and promptness."
Justice Sharma was born in Bhopal, on November 30, 1961. He finished his law graduation from Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar, he received three gold medals for graduating first in the LL.B. programme in 1984. On September 1, 1984, Justice Sharma enrolled as an advocate and quickly rose to prominence as one of Madhya Pradesh's top advocates. He was one of the youngest senior advocates in the Madhya Pradesh High Court when he was designated as a Senior Advocate by that court in 2003. He was only 42 years old. In the Madhya Pradesh High Court, he practised in constitutional, service, civil, and criminal matters. In 2008, he was appointed to the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Since October 11, 2021, he had served as the Telangana High Court's Chief Justice.
