Tis Hazari Violence: Use Your Good Officers For Settlement Before Seeking Action Against Protesting Police Officers, Delhi HC To Petitioner

Use your good officers for settlement, the Delhi High Court told the petitioner who moved a plea seeking disciplinary action against the Delhi police personnel for carrying out agitation outside the police headquarters against the Tis Hazari incident.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Hari Shankar refused to give an early hearing to the matter and asked the petitioner to use his good officers for settlement with the police.

"Use your good officers for settlement. Please wait and watch. The long date is required and we will see,” the Bench said.

The petition was filed by advocate Rakesh Kumar Lakra after scores of police personnel laid siege to the force’s headquarters for 11 hours and staged a virtual revolt on November 5, 2019.

The protesters demanded that the suspension and transfer of police officers ordered by the Delhi High Court following the clash be revoked. They demanded that cases be registered against the lawyers based on the complaints by the injured police officers and the High Court’s order that no severe action against lawyers should be taken over the incident, be challenged in the Supreme Court.

Following the protest, the petitioner filed the plea seeking disciplinary action and initiation of departmental inquiry against several IPS and senior police officers who participated in the protests, violating of prevalent laws.

It also demanded action against police officers who circulated provocative and inciting statements on electronic and social media.

The matter will be heard next on February 12 next year.
