NEW DELHI: Senior advocate Dushyant Dave on Thursday contended before the Supreme Court that there should be no restriction of time for those arguing against the Karnataka High Court's March 15 order upholding ban on hijab in Pre-University Colleges.
He also told a bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia that the matter should not have been heard by it and instead, the case should have been referred to a larger Constitution bench.
Dave, who seeks to represent some of the petitioners, was apparently unhappy with limited time allocated to the counsel to argue the case.
“Please don't restrain us in time for arguing," he said, adding the matter affects millions of people and he wants to show the Constituent Assembly debates and the warning given by Sardar Patel.
At the end of hearing on Thursday, the court asked him specifically about the number of hours to be taken by him for arguments.
On his response that he would take four hours, the court fixed the matter for hearing further arguments at 2 pm on Monday.
