Illegal mining in Aravallis:

New Delhi: While hearing a case regarding illegal mining in Aravallis, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has stated that all vehicles carrying minor minerals for supplying to stone crushers/screening plants in Gurugram, Nuh and Faridabad districts are required to be equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS), latest by February 28.

“The route of the vehicle from source to destination be tracked through the system using checkpoints, radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags, and Global Positioning System tracking,” reads the order dated December 11.

“Aravalli Rejuvenation Action Plan for reclamation/rehabilitation of the land illegally mined in the Aravalli region be also prepared and filed within two months,” it further reads.

The tribunal found that the helpline, started by the mines department, to report illegal mining complaints was functional, but the email id of the control room did not work.

NGT directed the Haryana government to ensure that the helpline, email ID, and web portal for making complaints regarding illegal mining and transportation be made functional by the Department of Mining and Geology within two months from the date of receipt of a copy of this

The next hearing in the case will take place on January 9.
