NEW DELHI: In a swift turn of events, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the Supreme Court's Secretary General to produce before him transcripts of the translation of his interview to a TV Channel furnished before the top court.

The development came within hours of the Supreme Court directing the Chief Justice of the High Court to assign the case related to recruitment scam in West Bengal's schools to some other judge.

Registering a case as "In Re: The Court on its own motion", Justice Gangopadhyay said, "I direct the Secretary General of the Supreme Court to produce before me the report and the official translation of the interview given by me in media and the affidavit of the Registrar General of this Court."

In a two-page written order, the judge said, "This is required for the sake of transparency. I will be waiting in my chamber till 12:15 in the midnight to get the said
two sets in original which were placed before the Judges of the Supreme Court today."

On Friday, the Supreme Court on Friday asked Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court to assign the recruitment scam in government schools in West Bengal to some other judge.

The court's order came in view of the fact that Justice Gangopadhyay, who heard the matter, gave interview to a news channel in connection with TMC MP and West Bengal CM's Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee.

On April 13, the judge had allowed the CBI and the ED to question Banerjee in the case.

The order was subsequently stayed by the top court.
