After Cyber Security Attack, Karnataka High Court Resumes Live Streaming And Video Conferencing Hearing

The Karnataka High Court will resume live streaming and video conference hearing from December 11 with certain guidelines in place.

Last week, the Court had stopped live streaming after few miscreants started playing obscene videos in few court halls while Court hearings were is session.

The guidelines issued on a pilot basis state that all the Advocates, party-in-persons, Litigants, and media persons should get themselves compulsorily registered on the Zoom platform as a one-time measure by a sign-up procedure.

Only such registered users would be allowed to join the Video Conference for the Court Hall proceedings as signed-in users. The Advocates, party-in-persons, and Litigants should reveal certain details and this will be their participant’s name - List No. Case no and name. (Ex. List-1: WP 1/2003: Rama).

As for media persons, they are required to put their name along with the media house which they are representing.

A waiting room will be enabled in all the Court halls. Only the participants with the correct case numbers will be allowed to participate in the Court Proceedings.

Participants outside India, should send an advance to the Registrar Judicial requesting permission to join the VC links.

These guidelines are set in place to ensure that no such toward incident happens in the future. While suspending VC hearing temporarily earlier, the Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale had expressed his concern as there was some "mischief" and indicated that there could be certain "mischief players" behind it.

Based on the incident, cases were registered under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.  The investigation in the matter is underway.
