MCD's first 'Milk Bank' plans to store mother's milk for future use

MCDs first milk bank plans to store mothers milk for future use

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has proposed to set up city's first municipal-run "milk bank" at Swami Dayanand Hospital (SDH).

“It will essentially be a facility where mother’s milk can be stored at low temperatures, so that it can be used for babies in the future. It will be akin to a blood bank,” news agency PTI reported while quoting a doctor.

In its budget presented on December 9, MCD had proposed the establishment of its first lactation management unit or "milk bank" at the hospital. However, the municipal commissioner in the budget speech did not elaborate on the planned project.

Asked who else can benefit from such a "milk bank", the doctor said babies who may have lost their mothers at birth or early age.

The MCD on Saturday presented a budget estimate of Rs 16,683.02 crore for the year 2024-25.
