Women including housewife approach NCW against controversial IPS officer Gyaneshwar Singh

NEW DELHI: Two women have written to the National Commission for Women (NCW) stating that they have been served notices by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for posting on their X (formerly Twitter) timelines about officer Gyaneshwar Singh.

Gyaneshwar Singh is the controversial NCB officer said to be involved in clearing Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khans son Aryan Khan, overnight, in the Cordelia Cruise drugs case.

They state that this is despite the fact that their tweets were based on news reports, High Court orders, and other proofs attached with the posts.

One of the women has written that she suspects that officer Gyaneshwar Singh frames women in such cases and then behaves inappropriately with them.

The housewife, wrote in her complaint, all the tweets which I have posted on social media were all based on current news articles and news links. So nothing was made up or written in a fashion to defame anyone, as I chose and took responsibility to speak against injustice in a right and respectful way.

Referring to news articles that raised question marks on the character of the officer who cleared Khan, she mentioned, The officer was removed from the CVO position due to lapses in his investigation. There were news articles where the officer in question was on duty and has call girls in his room for multiple nights

Gyaneshwar Singh is said to have cleared Khans name from the Cordelia Cruise drugs case, while throwing fellow officer Sameer Wankhede under the bus. Ultimately, the 1999 Himachal cadre IPS officer and NCB Deputy Director General (DDG) Singh was removed from the vigilance probe against Wankhede in April 2024.

He was also removed as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

According to reports, Singh was removed after complaints of dereliction of duty and misconduct were received by the NCB.

A senior NCB official has been quoted as saying in a report by Free Press Journal, A complaint about NCB CVO stay at ITC Narmada, Ahmedabad last March was investigated and some officers on deputation were repatriated to their respective organization.

A part-time CVO has been appointed as well, to investigate the complaints against Singh.

The controversy surrounding Gyaneshwar Singh isnt new. He has previously faced allegations of misconduct, including an incident where he was accused of engaging with a call girl during an official trip to Ahmedabad. This meeting, according to reports, was facilitated by another NCB officer on deputation.
