No bail for Parliament security breach accused Neelam Azad

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court today denied bail to Neelam Azad, one of the accused in the Parliament security breach case.

Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur passed the order.

Earlier, the Delhi Police had opposed the bail application of Neelam Azad, stating that she had played a role in "disrupting the sovereignty and integrity" of India, and that as the investigation was in its early stages, bail could not be granted to her.

The police represented by Special Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh had argued that enlarging Azad on bail could potentially hinder and obstruct the ongoing inquiries.

They also pointed out that considering the severity of the offence, which carries a punishment of up to life imprisonment or death penalty, Azad could not be released at this stage.

"The material, evidence, and other documentary evidence show her complicity in the offence and thus, disentitle her to be released on bail," Singh had submitted.

On December 13, during Lok Sabha proceedings, two persons — Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D — had jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during the Zero Hour, released yellow gas from canisters, and shouted slogans before being overpowered by the MPs.

Simultaneously, Amol Shinde and Azad, also sprayed coloured gas from canisters while shouting "tanashahi nahi chalegi" outside the Parliament premises.
