Autos fined Rs 20,000 for plying on Greater Noida expressway

Traffic police in Noida is imposing fines of up to Rs 20,000 on auto-rickshaw drivers found violating the ban on the expressway.

The action has made auto drivers upset and they are opposing heavy fines on them. Auto drivers said they would not survive if they were fined like this. Autos are banned on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway as it is a high-speed e-way for “safety reasons”.

According to a report in Times Of India, police said they would not allow autos on the expressway, the auto union argued that most drivers only use a small section near the Mahamaya flyover to reach Amity University, Kalindi Kunj, Sarita Vihar, etc.

On Wednesday afternoon, police held a meeting with auto union members. The union demanded the traffic police to cancel these challans or they will go on protest.

DCP (traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav said, “We informed the union that in June this year, the traffic department issued an order banning movement of autos, tempos, tractor-trolleys, bullock carts, e-rickshaws and other slow-moving vehicles on the Noida expressway from Sector 14A to Pari Chowk. They were also told to park their vehicles at authorised parking,"

However, Auto Union has threatened to protest if police continue with this strict enforcement.
