Ajmer Based Burglars' Gang Busted, 3 Nabbed

The South East district police have arrested three desperate burglars and claim to have busted a gang from Rajasthan's Ajmer operating in Delhi.

The modus operandi employed by the gang was that they would target houses where marriages were to be held. The police arrested a jeweller, a receiver who bought the jewellery pieces and melted into bricks and bars.

The police recovered gold bars, diamond jewellery, expensive watches, cash and foreign currency worth ₹ 20 lakh and tools used in melting gold jewellery.

Those caught have been identified as Sonu 23 years and Kalu 24 years both from Ajmer, Rajasthan who used to burgle houses in the area of Amar Colony and nearby areas. The police also arrested one receiver jeweller Panna Lal Soni 46 years resident of Ajmer who used to purchase the stolen jewellery from the burglars.

There was a complaint registered at PS Amar Colony by a retired additional secretary with Ministry of Water Resources. The complainant and his family went to their relatives in Faridabad when they returned in the evening, they found the lock of the house broken. When they entered the house, they found the whole house ransacked and the jewellery, cash including foreign currency and other valuables were found stolen. Accordingly, a case under Sections 454 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, was registered at PS Amar Colony.

Keeping in view the incidents of burglary and house thefts in the area of Amar Colony, a team led by SHO inspector Anant Gunjan comprising SI Abhishek Mishra, ASI Jagdish, HC Zafer, HC Udaiveer, and others was constituted under the close supervision of Govind Sharma ACP sub-division Kalkaji.

"During the course of investigation, CCTV footages of the area were scrutinized and efforts were made to trace the suspects involved in the burglary and house theft incidents. Criminals with similar modus operandi were questioned and secret informers were also deputed to garner information about the accused. The police team worked relentlessly day in day out. Furthermore, we received more inputs about the culprits involved in burglary and house thefts. A close watch was also kept on the activities of the lately released criminals. The hard work of the team finally fetched the results," DCP South East district Chinmoy Biswal said.

The police carried out raids at different locations in Ajmer. Eventually, on the basis of intelligence gathered, the police apprehended Sonu and Kalu from Ajmer. They disclosed that they with their other associates used to commit burglaries in the area of Amar Colony and dispose of the stolen jewellery to a local jeweller in Ajmer. At instance of both the accused, the receiver of stolen property Panna Lal Soni, 46 years was also arrested.

"After a long spell of sustained interrogation, the accused Sonu and Kalu disclosed that they are native of Ajmer and lived in a nearby area. They alongwith their associates Babulal, Sanjay and Satya used to come to Delhi for burglary. They stayed at shelter homes (Rain Basera) at Astha Kunj Park, Amar Colony and also at Gurgaon. They during their stay conducted recee in the posh colonies and target houses where marriages were going to be held shortly," District police chief Biswal concluded.

A case has been registered against the accused persons under Sections 380, 454, 411 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
