NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a contempt notice to Patanjali Ayurved and its MD Acharya Balakrishna for publishing "misleading" advertisements on medicinal cures, of their products, going against their undertaking before the court.
"The entire country is taken for a ride," a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said, while coming down heavily upon the Centre for failing to act against the company.
Citing the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act 1954, the bench restrained Patanjali Ayurved from advertising its products relating to various diseases/disorders.

The bench restrained the company from issuing Print and TV ads on Patanjali medicine advertisements till the next date of hearing.
The court also sought a detailed affidavit from the Union government as to what steps it had taken in terms of the last order.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) regarding the "misinformation" against Allopathy by Patanjali.
