Man sues Apple for 5 million blaming company for divorce after wife discovers deleted messages with sex workers

United Kingdom: A man in the UK has sued Apple after his wife found messages he sent to sex workers, which he thought he had deleted, on another device. This discovery led to their divorce, and he blames Apple for the lack of transparency regarding deleted messages.

The man, whose identity remains confidential, admitted in an interview that he used the iMessage app on his iPhone to contact sex workers. He believed he had permanently deleted these messages from his phone, but his wife later discovered them on an iMac.

If you are told a message is deleted, you are entitled to believe its deleted, he told The Times, explaining that this revelation contributed to his painful and raw divorce. He believes that had his wife not found the messages in such a shocking manner, they might still be married.

Seeking 5 million in damages, the man accuses Apple of misleading him about the status of deleted messages. His attorney, Simon Walton, criticized Apple for not being clear about what happens to deleted messages across linked devices. He pointed out that the companys policy is misleading, as users can still find deleted messages on other devices, a fact Apple does not disclose.

Walton expressed interest in contacting other Apple users who have faced similar issues, believing that clearer communication from Apple about message deletion could have prevented his clients marital breakdown.
