DELHI: The Delhi High Court has granted relief to 8 global entertainment companies - including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Warner Bros, Universal, and Paramount Pictures - by ordering three ‘rogue cyberlocker websites’ like Doodstream.com to take down unauthorised copyrighted content of the companies.
The 8 companies had moved the Delhi High Court seeking a permanent injunction against unauthorised hosting of their copyrighted content.
A single-judge bench of Justice Anish Dayal directed for the take down of the infringing content, disabling of the websites' features which allow re-uploading of infringing content by generation of a new link, and disclosure of revenues of the websites since their launch.
The companies have filed a suit before the Court seeking relief against the hosting, uploading, storing, sharing, streaming and downloading of unauthorised content belonging to them.
Operated by individuals based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, the platforms host both non-adult and adult (pornographic) content.
Stating that such platforms even permit generation of a new link the moment the takedown takes place, the plaintiff's counsel termed them as “hydra-headed monsters”.
In response, the defendants undertook that they would comply with complete takedown of the infringing material and disable the feature allowing regeneration of links.
The Court will hear the matter next on April 8.
